Hang on to your diapies, babies, we’re BACK!
During ViacomCBS’ investers day event today, along with a slew of other reboots and reimaginings, they announced the return of the classic 90s cartoon, Rugrats.
Featuring the return of many members of the original voice cast, including E.G. Daily as Tommy Pickles, Nancy Cartwright as Chuck Finster, Cheryl Chase as Angelica Pickles, Cree Summer as Suzie Carmichael, & Kath Soucie as Phil & Lil DeVille, the new series has a 3D CG animation style and is said to follow “they explore the world and beyond from their pint-sized and wildly imaginative point-of-view.”
No word yet on who will be voicing the adult characters or if Kimi and Dil will appear in the show.
But we are sure to find out soon as it’s currently scheduled to debut sometime this year on Paramount+.

Analysis: As a long time fan, I do have a few super nerdy quibbles, the biggest of which is the seemingly different floor plan of the Pickles house.
Having grown up watching the original and its sequel series, All Grown Up, as well as spending many an hour running around that house while playing the Rugrats: Search For Reptar video game on PlayStation 1, it’s such an odd choice to change something like that.
While I feel the animation is a bit odd looking, I think it’s only a matter of time before it grows on me.
I’m always a bit worried when things go the CG animated route too as I love old school 2D animation, and I don’t want that classic animation style to die.
The dark lighting is a bit strange too, though that seems more in line with the animation on the movies, particularly the first.
Now, having said all that, the textures are beautiful!
The stucco’d wall, the fibrous carpet, seeing individual hairs on the characters heads, it’s magnificent!
I’m more than willing to give this a shot when it debuts.
How do you feel?
Do you love or hate the animation?
Would you have preferred to see older versions of the characters?
