Yesterday, after a year or so of rumors and the recent upheavals, Warner Brothers Home Entertainment officially announced Trick Or Treat Scooby-Doo as the next Drirect-To-Video movie!
Watch The Trailer and read the description below and let’s talk after.
Trick Or Treat Scooby-Doo Trailer
The official description from the Youtube Channel is as follows: Mystery Inc. has cracked the case to top all cases! They’ve tracked down Coco Diablo, the head of the notorious costume crime syndicate that colludes The Black Knight, Space Kook and the Ghost Diver. With Coco and her kitty in prison, Mystery Inc. thinks that they can finally enjoy a break. Wrong! Suddenly, menacing doppelganger ghosts of the Scooby crew and favorite classic foes show up in Coolsville to threaten Halloween. Now it’s up to the meddling kids – and their unlikely new partner Coco – to unmask the latest scoundrel and save Halloween! For Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, with trick-or-treating on the line – this time it’s personal!
While the release date hasn’t been officially announced, we do know the Australian & French dates are October 19th & 26th respectively, which, either way, would make this the first Scooby DTV released in over 13 months.
***UPDATE***
We now know the US DVD release date is October 18th!
My Take: I think this looks great.
I love the return/continuation of the Guess Who style, the cover art is a slick poster, and it seems to rely on Where Are You nostalgia in a fresh way.
Plus, Scooby-Doo and Halloween go together like chocolate and peanut butter.
But, given all of the craziness that continues to happen over at WB, I had an uneasy, almost melancholy, feeling watching that trailer.
After a year with no Scooby announcements, the 3rd Daphne And Velma novel being downgraded to ebook only, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt being canceled, I fear this could end up being a sort of unofficial franchise series finale, at least for a little while.
In my almost 25 years of loving Scooby, there has never been this long of a break in the release of movies, until this year.
That has been a struggle for me.
I miss my friends, and I hope I’m worrying for nothing.

It sucks that this could be the last Scooby content for a while. Though IMO it could maybe use a break. The franchise has been too reliant on nostalgia lately with all the crossovers and throwbacks to the classic series. I admit, I wasn’t a big fan of Guess Who.. Maybe a break is the breath of fresh air this franchise needs. Whatever happens, hopefully we won’t have to wait nearly a decade to find out.
I do and don’t agree, mostly because it feels like the nostalgia isn’t isolated to Scooby.
Everything seems to be relying heavily on it instead of taking chances, which I don’t see changing anytime soon for a multitude of reasons.
Very true. Nostalgia sells. And that’s not going anywhere.
Right?
I’ve long felt crossovers were good for spreading the word that Scooby was still around, but I also think we need a little bit more originality going forward.
