A Pup Plays Scooby-Doo?

This morning, Netflix unveiled our first look at Scoob from their upcoming Live-Action Series, Scooby-Doo: Origins!
An adorable Great Dane puppy.
We don’t know how old or what this little pups name is yet, though it’s clear it’s just a wee wittle baby.
And we all rejoiced, right?
Not so fast, sports fan!

If you remember years ago, I posted an article about why the Scooby-Doo & WWE movies were a good idea based on the pissy fuckin’ response to that announcement.
But unfortunately, though sadly expected, Scooby fans have disappointed me, yet again.
I immediately saw a couple of the larger Scooby fan accounts on Instagram were making posts and comments, naysaying this adorable little pup.
These are the four most common complaints I saw and wanted to address.

But first what are my qualifications to address these complaints?
Well, I’ve been a Scooby-Doo fan since 1999.
I’ve been studying the ins and outs of entertainment for the last 25 years.
And, most importantly, except for the stretch of time from May 2025 through March of 2026, I’ve had dogs since the day I was born.
I’ve also spent many years on Instagram looking at pictures and videos of puppies, specifically of the Great Dane variety.
Now remember all of this, it’s gonna come back around.

Is it a girl?
Well, the pup’s leg is in the way of me seeing a red rocket, but most likely.
While a lot of male dogs have been known to play males on screen (Soccer as Wishbone, Moose as Eddie on Fraiser, etc), Hollywood has been known to use female dogs in productions (Porthos on Enterprise was a sweet little girl named Breezy) because female dogs are generally more well behaved.
So yeah, it’s pretty damn possible .

Putting a brown dog in a blue collar doesn’t make it Scooby!
Okay…but it’s not just a brown dog, it’s a…

It’s not even a Great Dane!
…okay, if you had let me finish what I was saying…it’s not just a brown dog, it’s a Great Dane.
Look at those paws, if you can look at those giant mitts and think it’s not really a Great Dane, I can’t help you, man.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.
That is among the greatest of Danes I’ve seen, the paws, the ears, the face.
It’s gonna take some time for this…

Where are the spots!?
You dense motherfucker, shut your goddamn mouth!
Are your parents blood relatives?
You can’t be this fucking stupid, I can’t believe you’re actually capable of walking upright and can form a coherent goddamn thought, you thick fuck.
Do you really think dogs come out looking 5 years old?
My puppy nephew has drastically changed since I first met him in March.
He’s gotten taller, his coloration and markings have morphed and changed, his head has gotten bigger, his muzzle has elongated.
Do you really not understand this fuckin’ concept?
I know your IQ hasn’t changed much, but do you look the same today as you did when you were born?
I highly doubt it.
Also, spots can be added in post or with some pet safe paint/dye, is this really that goddamn hard to figure out?

Look, I’m not saying we need to drop to our knees and give driver’s courtesy for every piece of trash flung our way, but holy shit, it’s a fuckin’ cute dog.
How can you look at the picture and teaser trailer of a cute little puppy and be so goddamn pissy immediately?
AND THAT’S ME SAYING THAT!!!
The guy that created Fuck This Shit, the segment designed specifically for petty bitching’ and moanin’.

It’s been years with no mainstream Scooby, well, anything.
No movies, no shows, and no comics.
We’re on the cusp of having three shows running: Origins, Gokku, and Yokoso.
Maybe we, as Scooby fans, could not be whiney little assholes for once?
Maybe we could not be like most other modern fandoms and shit all over something based on a fuckin’ picture and four seconds of video?
I guess, after this drought, I’m just asking too much?

I, for one, am incredibly excited for this show.
Seeing the cast’s interactions on IG has made me more excited than anything, but also knowing that McKenna Grace is a huge fan of the franchise has eased most of my early worries.
I am ready to see what surprises they have in store for us.
