Goosebumps: The Beast From The East Review

It’s Halloween season again, gang, so gather round as I take another dive into the realm of bumpy gooses!
But where will this one stand when compared to the 2 Goosebumps books I read last year?
Better?
Worse?
Let us dive in and find out!

This is your always necessary, big ol’ ***SPOILER ALERT***

Teenager Ginger Wald & her family, including twins Pat & Nat, have gone on a weekend camping trip (Sylis Weller, not included).
The kids head into the woods for a quick hike to burn off some energy and get roped into a twisted game of tag with a pack of giant blue furred and tusked beasts.

Gang, I think I have finally cracked the code on what Goosebumps reminds me of.
In a big bad way, I’m getting major “The Twilight Zone, but for kids” vibes, and not solely because of the anthological nature of both series.
Mostly because both share a genre spanning, “be careful what you wish for” attitude that often times don’t have the perfect happy ending we all wish for.
That alone warms me up to this series.

This installment definitely has far stronger horror ties than the 1st of the 3 I have now read and reviewed.
And even better, it comes in multiple forms dealing with numerous fears and in different waves throughout the book.
The fears of being lost and never found, monsters, bugs, the unknown, and even darkness are all touched on.
And it took me back a bit to the more simple times in my life where this would have keyed into all of these fears and really turned the screws.

These are fun little stories, gang, still to this day.
Sure, they are indeed simple, but they are incredibly effective.
After having now read 3 of these, it is crystal clear why the series is still so popular.
I am a tad bit sad I missed the boat when I was younger.

And finally, given the state of the world, do what you can to leave it a little bit better than you found it.
As difficult as that may be currently, it can have an impact far greater than you know.
Until next time, stay safe out there, gang.
